Volunteer Information
You Can Be a Glen Ellyn Firefighter
Volunteers in the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company come from diverse backgrounds and situations, but they all have certain things in common: a love of the Glen Ellyn community, a strong desire to give back in a meaningful way, and the shared joy of being a part of something bigger than themselves.
Who can be a Glen Ellyn Firefighter?
Our volunteers are your neighbors—business owners, lawyers, engineers, fathers, mothers, retirees, middle aged, adults, young adults, and more. Being a volunteer firefighter does not require you to put aside your daily activities and obligations. Instead, as you continue to live, work, and enjoy your family and friends, the opportunity to serve as a volunteer enriches your life in meaningful ways. You are the one who will be the frontline worker—the first to respond when someone in your community needs help.
Requirements:
- Live within 1 mile of the service area
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Training
Our firefighters are fully trained in firefighting and rescue skills to respond to emergencies, and our company is stocked with the best firefighting equipment in the area. All training is provided. A regular schedule of trainings is completed over the course of 18 months.
